Relax with a great shake

by spisakgarcia

I

I love the Owl Cafe ! Their hamburgers are the best, juicy and filling. I love 50's style cafe's and the Owl is one of the finest. It's relaxing, they don't hurry you and they have great shakes and floats. If you are not a "hamburger" person, they have other things, i.e. sandwiches, salads and even mexican food on certain days. You can't go wrong at the Owl Cafe !

  • Pros: Hamburgers
  • Cons: Cost - a little high for what you get

This 1950s-style diner caters to locals with juicy cheeseburgers, blue plate, comfort food specials and homemade desserts.

Having Been to Both. . .

by amatrixpueri

I've been to both the original Owl Bar (not cafe), and the Eubank spawn, and I must say: the original has an exceptional green chile burger, and the Albuquerque one has truly baffling milkshakes. The burger in San Anton is small, true, but it is so messy, so delicious, so heart-meltingly full of NM green-chile goodness that one hardly notices; it's the very paradigm of what a NM green chile burger should be. The shakes at the Eubank one defy reason, the peanut butter one alone so heart-rendingly succulent as to totally obliterate the memory of any other milkshake one has ever had-anywhere. Both these places have unbeatable atmosphere: the original, dark faux-dive, the progeny cheerful 50s nostalgia.

  • Pros: great green chile, atmosphere, milkshakes
  • Cons: crowded (Eubank), limited breakfast

Always good food

by archerjoe

I ate at the San Antonio restaurant many times and consider the Owl in ABQ to be just as good. These burgers are they way burgers are supposed to be made.

  • Pros: Homestyle food, Ambience

generic dining

Regarding the green chile burger. nothing spectacular here. In fact, most truck stops could compete with this restaurant for quality, and beat it in price. As far as the fries are concerned, I think they pushed the envelope in grease content and still keeping it in a semi-fry shape.

Over Rated

Overall, I would say that this establishment is over-rated; The menu extremely limited (steaks are available), and the price is high for what you get. The burgers are delicious, but small. It was hard to find or taste the green chile in the burger. Order at least a double meat burger because the patties are small. One unique item you will find here is people sign dollar bills for which the cafe posts on their walls throughout. At some point, the owners take the money and donate it to charity. There are also several pictures of "Stars" posted on the walls throughout the establishment. I don't see what the hype is over this "famous" place, but it was fun and not too bad. For a family of five it costs us $29.00 not including the tip for burgers, fries, drinks, and two beers.

  • Pros: Tasty, Unique, Friendly
  • Cons: Pricy, Over Rated

Heaven

by bobscoggin

The Owl Cafe has the WORLDS best green chili cheese burgers you will ever sink you teeth in. The chili has great flavor and little heat. Add fries to the order and you are going to be full for a long time.

  • Pros: Food, Service, Enviroment

OUTPOST

by l_morrill

(I have been to many NM places, many times) Ancient Secret - go to Carrizozo for the best green chile cheeseburger... because the Owl Cafe is merely a pretender to the throne. The service deserved the rating I gave, they are too comfortable to care. At the Owl Cafe I had their signature entree and the Root Beer. it just isn't the best. It is better than a McDonald's with Bueno Chile, but to TRULY find the best, travel a little and you will find it. Or settle for an approximation.
