Best food in town!

by abqamy at Citysearch

This charming " hole in the wall" indian restaurant has been family owned, and operated for almost 30 years, now if that doesn't say something about their overall quality, im not sure what will.

My family and I have been eating at india kitchen my whole life,( literally) and i think it is one of Albuquerque's best kept secrets. Although it may be a little hard to find it is totally worth it! The food there is excellent, not to mention they are more than happy to cater to just about any dietary restriction imaginable ( vegan, gluten free, any type of allergy, spice level, etc) The menu is filled with reasonably priced vegetarian dishes, and a variety of meat dishes. The owners, as well as the staff are very friendly. The service is always fast, and wonderful! If you live in albuquerque, and enjoy indian food, this is the perfect place for you!

  • Pros: small, cozy, great food, and wonderful service!
  • Cons: they are only open for dinner

Sad excuse for Indian cuisine!

by TongueTwister at Citysearch

The food had everything except for taste... They used stale oil to fry pappads and the food did not have any spice, salt and it was less than amateurish. I'm not a good cook by any scale, but I'm sure I can cook better. Avoid this place... remove it from your GPS's POI if you can. I would rate it less than 1 if it was possible!

If you want Indian food please find another place, if not 'Stay hungry my friend!'

  • Pros: Good treasure hunt... (to find the place)
  • Cons: The reward is less than rewarding!

India Kitchen is the best and josh69 is bogus.

by Michael security guard at Citysearch

The India Kitchen restaurant is the best there is in Albuquerque with food that is made in a style different than the food in the larger Indian restaurants that all seem to have cooks

coming out of the same indian crusine school.

India Kitchen has a chief who obviously loves

cooking family style receipies in a family style

restaurant straight out of India. I have eaten saag paneer, dals, and gulab juman in India and this place absolutely serves the most authentic

that I have ever eaten in this town.

  • Pros: Unique, delicious food and cozy place.
  • Cons: Not open for lunch.

Best Indian in ABQ

by kaylaabq at Citysearch

If you are looking for some delicious Indian food in Albuquerque, India Kitchen is clearly the only choice. It is a hole in the wall place with a great atmosphere, and even better food. (And they are really good at working with your food alergies!!!) I recomend the spicy lamb or chicken vindaloo, or the creamy chicken tikka masala for a meat dish. Or the spinach kofta or the mutter paneer for veggie dishes.

Oh and dessert is worth the stay... The kheer is to die for, not to mention the other desserts.

GO AND ENJOY!!!

  • Pros: Atmosphere, Varied Menu, Something for everyone
  • Cons: Hidden (but worth looking for)

Indian Fusion delight@Albuquerque's oldest Indian Restaurant

by aagupta2 at Citysearch

The India Kitchen is a hole in the wall restaurant that is some what hard to find for first time customers, but it is well worth the search. It has a mom & pop kind of vibe, and the focus is clearly on the flavor. Everything is served family style, and the dishes taste fresh, and surprisingly light, considering how oily some Indian food can be. Despite not having a buffet, the prices for dinner are quite reasonable, and the portions are big enough that it is often hard to save room for dessert. However if you do make it through your meal still hungry for more i would try the gulab jamun, my personal favorite. There is only one in an order, but it is bigger then they are traditionally, and are topped off with coconut. I would definitely recommend India Kitchen to anyone in Albuquerque looking for some good ethnic food.

  • Pros: Fresh, Customizable Spice levels, Good Value, Great service
  • Cons: Hard to find, Limited hours, no buffet

avoid at all cost!!

by josh69 at Citysearch

This is the worst "indian" food I have eaten my entire life. I have eaten over 200 restaturants throughout the United States and by far this is the bottom of the barrel. The spices are all off. The service is terrible, the food was clearly left overs from the day before. If you want real indo/Pak food, go to India Palace on wyoming and Montgomery. They really know their stuff there.

Great Food

by jontime at Citysearch

The India Kitchen is definately not your normal Indian Restaurant. It is extremely unique with several vegetarian, non vegetarian, as well as Seafood. There are all the classic indian dishes, but there are also other special dishes with an Indian Twist. I would recommend this restaurant over other restaurants, especially if you want to try different meats and vegatables with an indian twist.

Vegetarians are humored, honored and stuffed to the gills at this home-style Indian hideaway.

The Scene

Though it's located in a somewhat generic strip mall, the owners have dressed up the interior with glittery Indian tapestries, statues and artifacts. The result is a cozy hangout for Indian-food lovers and neophytes alike.

The Food

With 20 pure vegetarian items to choose from, India Kitchen is probably the best choice for vegetarian Indian food in the city. The vegetable korma is lighter and less creamy than other restaurants' versions--a plus if you're looking for lighter fare. And the vegetarian Mulligatawny is tummy-filling and bargain priced. For those who do eat meat, try the spicy, exotic chicken eggplant or sweet-and-sour chicken with mango chutney. Be sure to order a cup of the spice-infused masala chai on cool evenings, or the spicy iced tea if it's hot out.

This place is terrible! The food tastes like some amateur kitchen experiment- the flavors just don't blend together and the spicing is way way off. The ingredients are really cheap tasting too. I keep trying India Kitchen, in hopes that they improve, but it hasn't happened over the course of the last 8 years! I have had Indian food in many cities and countries, and none have been this bad.

Delicious Food!

by maypen at Citysearch

I've eaten in quite a few Indian restaurants in the US and in other countries. The food here is delicious and compares favorably to the best Indian restaurants I've been in. The food is much better than the more pricey Indian restaurants I've tried in Albuquerque.

  • Pros: Great Value, Friendly Service
