Don't pass it up

by Myersarah at Citysearch

We almost drove pass this place but are so happy we did not miss it. We both had the chili cheese dog and enjoyed every last bite. My husband got the onion rings and said they were nothing great but the chili dog made-up for them. Watch out the chili does have some heat. I will go back next time we are in town!

Don't see what all the fuss is about

by Googlit at Citysearch

Perhaps my standards are different than others'. I went to this place expecting really good, Route 66, diner-style fare. What I got was mediocre, at best.

The onion rings were literally the same as I'd get in my grocery store's freezer section. The chili that other reviewers have raved about truly tasted as though it had come from a can. The hot dogs were standard fare. Basically, I've gotten better foot-long Coney's at my neighborhood Sonic.

All in all, I wouldn't say the food was inedible, but it certainly didn't rate the rave reviews that others have given it considering how many truly fantastic "roadside dive" meals that I've had the pleasure to consume along historic Route 66.

As a side note, the sign wasn't nearly as "kitchy" as I'd been led to believe - it's not that big, it's only got about 2 colors on it, and it's not even maintained well enough to indicate the owners see it as a point of pride.

I had the onion rings and hot dog with onions, cheese, and chili. When I went, it was about 1:30 in the afternoon, and not busy at all. Conversely, I noticed a Mexican Restauarant the block before the "Dog House" that was PACKED (an odd hour for so many cars). On my way back to the hotel from my disappointing excursion, I decided to stop by the other restauarant (named Garcia's Kitchen). I ordered a small plate of "Karnitas" - there's a reason why all the cars were parked in front of Garcia's and not the Dog House... the food was MUCH better. Granted, it was a different type of cuisine, but if I had to choose between bland, from-frozen diner-style food or freshly-prepared Mexican-style food, I'll take the freshly prepared food any day.

In summay, if you happen to be walking by, and you are desperately hungry, the Dog House is acceptable fare. However, I would not recommend driving out of your way, or even holding off your appitite in order to partake of the fare here.

Easily one of the Best Hot Dog Spots in the country

by DrexlerMcStyles at Citysearch

Before I lived here, just passing through, I stopped at the DogHouse because of the funky neon sign. But this place ended up being much more than a photo op. The DogHouse has the best chili cheese dogs anywhere in the US. I lived in L.A. most of my life and this place certainly smokes the over-rated Pink's we have out there. The reason: Best Chili you will find anywhere; thick and spicy. The DogHouse is certainly one of the perks of living in ABQ and I recommend it to any Chili Dog lover. Its the best!! The dining room is very small (very funky though and worth checking out) but waitresses will come up to your car and take your order, so...

  • Pros: Best Chili Cheese Dogs Anywhere!!
  • Cons: small diningroom, no free refills

The best hole in the wall

by ktbugg529 at Citysearch

When I was stationed in ABQ me and my friends would go to the Dog House almost every weekend. The food is cheap and so good. The foot long hot dog with chili and cheese was my favorite. The chili was hot but so good. I loved that they grilled the hot dogs and the buns. I even took my parents there when they came out to visit. My dad wants to go back to New Mexico just to eat there again. It is truely is the best

  • Pros: Service, Cheap,

Best Dogs in The West!

by hawthrone at Citysearch

This is by far the best dog you could find in the Southwest.! I would say the best in the nation, but Lafayette Coney Island in Detroit has that title just by a slim margin.

  • Pros: Great Value & Service, Food!
  • Cons: Location

Best Hot Dogs and truely a locals place

by grignet2 at Citysearch

Some of the best Dogs I ever eaten, watch out for that chilli sauce hot as hell. But it is a Hot Dog Diner and we love the grease on the walls from the fryer. My daughter Donna loved the Chilli Cheese Fries

Hot dogs served in a variety of ways is what you'll find at this inexpensive, cash-only, crowded eatery.

Best Chili Dogs in the world.

by lchrisc at Citysearch

I'm a native New Mexican, no longer a resident of ALBUQUERQUE. I have tried "Pinks" Chili dogs from Los Angeles.. "Nathans hot Dogs" out of New York... these are supposed to be "the best" dogs/chili dogs places in America - B/S. Obviously whoever determined this has not tried THE DOG HOUSE in ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO. The absolute best Chili dogs ever... the chili is so unique compared to any other chili dog... do you wanna know why? the chili is HOT. I recommend you order: a foot long chili dog with cheese, onions.

Whenever I am in town I never leave without stopping by the one and only place for chili dogs. THE DOG HOUSE.

  • Pros: Chili -Very Unique, Quick Service, Inexpensive

This IS the worlds best chile dog ...

by extrablue at Citysearch

You really have not had a chile dog until you have been to the Dog House Drive In. Talk about getting addicted ... Too good for words to explain the incredible explosion of flavor and heat when you bite down on one of these dogs. The only thing missing is I don't have one in my neck of the woods.
