Dr. Abernathy, Sunrise Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Abernathy is the best veterinarian I have ever seen. He is very sensitive and caring of both pets and their owners. He is also very dedicated and hard working, and even met me at 10 pm at night at the clinic to treat my cat, Diva. He is incredibly reasonably priced and accessible, and also very popular.
BEST VET IN THE STATE.
Dr A has been my vet for 15 years...he has been amazing to me and all of my family's pets, and is the most reasonably priced vet you will find in NM. He has a way with animals...he can get any animal to calm down and cooperate with what needs to be done. He even saw and fixed my hamster and turtle, he's not just a dog and cat specialist. In the past year I've had to put down 2 of my cats and neither of them were charged for euthanasia.
My favorite story of him was when my stray cat, who is now indoors, had pneumonia he met us at the vet on a Sunday at 8pm to give him an I.V. He will always go out of his way to help animals and has never been rude to us in 15 years, he has been nothing but helpful to our pets.
The vet does have long waiting times, but that just shows how popular he is! :)
I love sunrise and will never go anywhere else!!
Resonse to Dr. Abernathy.
I appreciate your response. However, there are inaccuracies in your account.
Your name was used in this review because this is a public forum where your name and the name of your clinic are available for the public to make both good and bad reviews. The complaint was not against your front desk staff, veterinary technicians or Dr. Welch. Also, every visit we have had with Dr. Welch, who has seen our other dog many times, has been nothing but professional, loving & informative. We were referred to your clinic & up until this experience with you specifically I would have wholeheartedly recommended Dr. Welch & Sunrise to anyone. Your name as a veterinarian is public & the complaint was towards your sensitivity & professionalism in the context of you as a veterinary doctor.
Never had anyone told you
In Response to sag 1212. This is George Abernathy D.V.M. I will not use your name since you did not divulge it but did use mine and Dr. Welch's names. The first time you brought "Tuesday" in was February 14, 2011 for an exam, bloodwork had been done on September 15, 2010. The bloodwork showed the kidneys were not working well at that time. Dr. Welch prescribed Azodyl and Tramadol with instructions to re-check bloodwork. You never returned for bloodwork. You set up an emergency euthanasia. They are set up strictly for euthanasia as an office call is not charged. There is no fee on the euthanasia as long as the pet has been seen in the last year. When I walked into the room your daughter was holding "Tuesday" in her arms, "Tuesday" was severely emaciated. All four legs were twitching uncontrollably, anything that came near
DO NOT USE THIS CLINIC!. I agree with the others. Office staff is RUDE and UNFRIENDLY - they act like you are inconveniencing them. If I owned this clinic I'd fire every last one of them tomorrow! They purposefully keep you on hold FOREVER hoping that you'll give up sooner or later and hang up. The wait is intolerable. The clinic charged us $69 for amoxicillin and refused to credit an unused bottle back when we found that we could get a generic version at Walmart for $7. Even charged $5 more to write a prescription we filled on-line. They didn't even want to bother with faxing the authorization to the online pharmacy and wanted ME to do it! If they treat the owners that back, how can they care for their animals? Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else!
Absolutely Wonderful. the wait is long because Dr. Abernathy is wonderful! Staff around him is not so great but he is damn near Jesus when you have an ill pet. He has removed tumors from my ferret, helped get puppy through parvo, yes I said Parvo, removed intentional blockage from dog who loves brillo pads, and helped my ailing chicken. If anything, Dr. Abernathy should be cloned, so more people/animals can experience his competent and kind ways. If you love your pet, you need to schedule an appointment asap, before there is any trouble.
Supurb service - caring staff - excellent vets!. We have been using Sunrise Vet Clinic for several years to take care of our cats. The staff has always been warm and friendly. Dr. Abernathy, Dr. Shrewsbury and Dr McCall have all seen our cats at one time or another. Dr Abernathy is considered one of the best vets in New Mexico, as a result, he is extremely busy and may be a bit rushed. When Dr. Shrewsbury or Dr McCall (also excellent vets) have taken care of our pets they have always taken as long as necessary. In a couple of extreme emergencies we were seen immediately. We will continue to use Sunrise as our vet clinic of choice and recommend them highly.
Bad front desk, so so vet experiences.
The front desk has been horrible. Whenever I call I am told there is a call ahead of me and I wait and wait and wait. When in the office the front desk is very unfriendly and it takes forever to check in. And while sitting there waiting I witness them telling callers there is a call ahead of them but no one is talking to anyone on the phone, just put on hold... It is not unheard of to wait 30 minutes to a few hours especially for walk in appointments.
The vets there are pretty good but always in such a rush to just get you out. They don't take much time with your pet. Then checking out takes even longer with the unfriendly staff. They are cheaper than some other places in town but the wait and the unfriendly staff is not worth a couple bucks in savings.
