This 350-acre state park hosts the largest hot-air balloon fiesta in the world..
Overview
What began in 1972 with 13 balloons taking off from a mall parking lot has grown into the largest event of its kind. The nine-day spectacle is the most photographed event in the world.
The Draw
A thousand hot air balloons and hundreds of thousands of spectators witness the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta annually. Popular draws include the nightly Balloon Glow, "special shapes" modeled after everything from Disney creatures to liquor bottles and glowdeos (special shapes glowing in the night sky.) Rides can be arranged with official balloon ride operators, Rainbow Ryders, or by volunteering on a balloon crew. This spacious park provides room for hundreds of vendors selling traditional New Mexican food, pizza and everything in between. A science center tricks kids into learning from the experience, while live entertainment is provided for the jaded few who tire of looking at the balloons.
