Pizza >Mario's Pizza & Ristorante
Went for lunch at the Wyoming and Paseo location today and it was the worst meal I have EVER been served. The waiter brought my glass out with chap stick on the brim. Sent that back. When my tea was brought out in a clean cup I then noticed it was very watered down and had tea leaf debris floating in it. My spoon was too short for the glass and I was reduced to sticking my fingers in my tea to grab the top of my spoon. On top of that the waiter had the dirtiest finger nails I have ever seen in a restaurant. Servers should know better. Made me worry over his fingers being in said tea glass... Then the lasagna came out and looked like a plate of slop. Decided not to judge it on looks so I took a bite. It was over-cooked, slimy and disgusting. I literally had to spit it out. My friend had the same reaction to her meal. The salad was wilted and mostly brown. Needless to say, we were upset. When we brought it up to the waiter who then brought it up to the manager, we were told tough luck. He suggested we either finish eating it or take it home. No comp, no apologies...nothing. He even went as far as to suggest that we simply hadn't eaten enough of this "lasagna" to fully appreciate it. We left with a bitter taste in our mouth, not only over the flavor of the food but also with regards to the managers arrogant attitude. I will never eat here again nor would I recommend it to anyone else.
Makes Your Head Spin. Mario's pizza is the real deal. Granted, I've never been to New York, but in my mind this is all pizza should be: cheesy, saucy, just the right amount of greasy-it's superb, and the selection of 'gourmet' pizza options is truly dazzling and all that I've ever had have been delicious. Yes, there's other Italian specials one can order, but that would take passing up the pizza-and I simply don't have the willpower.
Editorial Review. A slice of Sicily served fresh daily, including gourmet pizzas with crispy crusts and hearty pasta and meat dishes.
Habit forming. True Sicilian-style pizza in the middle of New Mexico. The fresh, hot, crispy pizza is perfectly balanced between the toppings and crust. Mario's is a habit waiting to happen. I just can't figure how to get them to deliver all the way to Dallas!
This eatery is located by the Uptown
mall section of ABQ, near several
insurance and investment brokerage
firms, so it does have a tad of
the mass production feel because of
the heavy lunchtime traffic but
the food is good and the prices
are fair-one can get chicken
parmigiana at $7.50 during the
daytime/lunch period and
it does have a relaxed,
casual feel to it with good
service and various selections.
From one Italian to Another!. I love this place!!! I am from NY and used to real Italian food and this place has it!!!
Best Pizza in Town!. Mario's has the biggest best tasting pizza in town! My wife and I took another couple there and there 26" Pan Pizza served all of us and 3 kids (and we still had enough leftovers to fill a whole pizza box). The price is good but the taste is the reason to return. In my opinion the best tasting pizza in Albuquerque!
Eggplant on Pizza?!?!?!.
My first visit to Mario's my girlfriend and I ordered the vegetarian pizza. I've had quite a few veggie pizzas, but this one had something that made it different - breaded eggplant. Everytime I got a bite of the eggplant I thought I'd died and gone to heaven - it was that good. We both ordered a side salad and were both disappointed in the house italian dressing (tasted like bottled dressing.)
Another visit, I tried the eggplant parm - just as delicious as it hinted at being when we discovered it on the pizza. My girlfriend tried the veggie sandwich which she found sadly lacking. It was nothing more than fried onions, green peppers and olives -- TONS of olives. When we complained to the waitress, the chef/owner promptly came over and offered to make whatever vegetarian dish she wantend.
Good way to get our repeat business.
My Dad's New Favorite!. I have enjoyed Mario's Pizza & Ristorante since I moved here in October 1999. I took my parents there last October and my Dad nearly fainted due to the joy of tasting their Supreme pizza (with anchovies and salami). I typically eat the spinach and eggplant lasagna (very good!) and my Dad is very particular about his pizza, but my curiosity got the best of me seeing the look on his face when he ate his first slice. So I ate a slice, and I have to say it was THE BEST. My Dad left a tip for the pizza chef upon our departure. My parents will be back in October this year and we are already planning our time around a dinner at Mario's. By the way...do you deliver to Denver? I guess a gift certificate will have to do. Thank you!
