Too bad- RoACHS.
Usually I am not squeamish, and I know some cultures eat roaches. They are full of protein, but this little fellow was not on my menu. I had eaten here before and found the food very tasty. On this Thursday evening I wanted to take my brother to a new experience in cuisine, I did not expect what happen.
It was about 6:45 pm and the restaurant was packed, we sat down and ordered the spring rolls and Tai ice tea. My brother ordered the sweet and sour stir fry and I ordered my favorite dish the red curry chicken.
The spring rolls were burnt but filling. When our main course came, I poured the curry chicken on my rice and it tasted great. I was savoring the ingredients when I started on my second serving I saw an unusual sight and texture on my plate. In the dim lighting it looked like a brown sprout of some sort. I separated it from the sauce and flipped it over and it had legs. YES, a roach!
Wow, I was so disappointed. I showed the waitress and our waiter. He said the manager would be right out to talk to me. I went to the bathroom and barfed. When I came back some young man told me that they had sprayed for bugs yesterday and they would make me a new plate. Well, I said I am not paying for this and we left. I should have told the rest of the patrons but I was so disappointed and in shock.
My poor brother barfed before we could get into the car.
Delicious Thai Food. I've only been to Siam Cafe once but I will definitely go back. They have a great selection of appetizers, soups, and entrees an they have a huge section of vegetarian food. The yellow curry was superb!
Nice atmosphere with pretty tasty food. This is a nice place that looks much better from the inside. The service was good and the food was pretty tasty. The only negative was the tiny portion of spring rolls that my wife got, surely you can do better than 2 small rolls in a order. Other than that everything was fine. Great Thai iced tea, My pineapple chicken curry was a very generous portion and just spicy enough. Recommended!!
average tasting food, reasonable price.
Campy decor. Polite staff. No alcohol served. Now on to the food: fried rolls were too greasy to eat. Tom Yum soup was flavorful but a little oily as well. The mixed seafood without curry tasted fine, as did the pineapple shrimp in red curry.
I've tried 4 other Thai restaurants in Albuquerque and this has been the best so far. However it isn't nearly as good as many Thai restaruants I've been to across the States. I didn't have anything on the menu that was craveworthy. However, if you want Thai in ABQ, give this place a shot.
