Editorial Review for Outback Steakhouse – by Citysearch Staff

In Short
Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilderness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appetizer with a following.

I have lived here most of my life, I was in Houston for over three years. I have yet to find a steakhouse here that equals the ones in Texas, but for Albuquerque and the quality of meat you get in this town, Outback by far exceeds the average and totally leaves the local "steak houses" in town far behind. It is a busy place if you dine too late in the evening, seating might be a hassle, but better to wait for quality food than be seated right away for something you'll be regratting in the morning. The waiting staff is very polite and as prompt as can be expected as busy as they usally are.

Pros: Quality food and Spirits

Cons: Possible long waits to eat

Yea, yea, everyone is enchanted by all things Australian but is it worth an extra $10 a person to talk to someone with an Australian accent? The food is good but the prices are just way too high for what you get. Service is spotty and fake.

Pros: Food

Cons: Prices

Australian tchotchkes and brews give this quintessentially American restaurant a distinctive Down Under flavor.  See the full editorial review.
