The Scene
The fairgrounds are continually abuzz with something. If it's not a basketball demo, then it's a dog and cat show. Art exhibitions and pig sales occur simultaneously. There's a reoccurring gun and knife show. The Pony Club and 4-H are both frequent visitors. All this when the State Fair is still months away.
The Best
An 800-vendor flea market is held here every weekend from 7am to 5pm, except during the State Fair. Mobs of shoppers come to buy multi-colored blankets, produce, and custom-made cowboy boots.
The Rest
The Downs at Albuquerque Racetrack and Casino is open daily from 12pm to 12am. It's all here: live and simulcast professional horse racing, three hundred video poker and slot machines, and all-you-can-eat buffet. And, yes, there is one monster of a state fair that comes through every September.

Nothing screams New Mexico like the State Fair, for visitors or natives alike I can't think of any other event that says What New Mexico is All about! you have the perfect blend of old town country life, mixed with the hi tech of life style that is also a part of N.M. from cows chickens to Brooks and Dunn. to Arabin horses to Flea Market , It shows that new mexico is on the cutting edge with the Labs and companies like Intel, But we haven't forgotten our rich past and ties to simple country life, 4H or FFA just to name afew
