Bangkok Cafe: another GREAT Thai place on Central!. For under $10, I got the following for lunch:

- 2 little appetizer egg rolls

- cup of thai soup

- large, delicious bowl of steaming hot red curry

- a little plate of melon and grapes

- a cup of coconut tapioca dessert //

// // // //Too bad it took me 3 years of driving around Albuquerque to realize there was another Thai restaurant on Central! //

// Orchid Thai has been our standby forever...but the slow service and prices made this discovery that much more exciting. //

//

// As someone who has had red curry in more than 15 states and at least two countries, I can say that this was right up there with the best. Perfectly spiced, plenty of sweetness, with a great blend of white meat chicken, vegetables (and I added fried tofu), and the curry sauce itself. ...and enough rice to leave you with leftovers!

Though I wouldn't--by any means--recommend that any restaurant open next to a Pussycat Adult Video Store...at least it makes a great landmark (along with the restaurant's bright red metal roof) to find it on Central when you're out looking for a place to get a great Thai meal.

The manager is there if you have question (I like to ask about the menu...call me 'that guy'), and is there to ensure the food tasted great. I almost felt bad telling him how SURPRISED I was...because it is now in my #1 spot for GREAT THAI IN ALBUQUERQUE.

Excellent - no doubt. I've enjoyed Bangkok Cafe for a few years now. Not impressed at all with Orchid, I do like Thai House (on Buena Vista). And Thai Tip has great food, but not much for atmosphere.

I was disappointed when Bangkok Cafe closed for remodeling. But I just went again today. The prices were just a little bit higher than I remember. But I was not at all disappointed once the food showed up.

A friend and I ordered the Nam Sod salad (med heat) and Spicy Fried Rice w/pork.

We both commented that it's hard to understand how people could choose to go to expensive fancy restaurants when there are spectacular flavors like these to be had for still less than $10 per person. It just doesn't make sense.

Every bite was a new joy. Not even finished with one mouthful and already looking forward to the next bite.

The Thom Kha and Pad Thai are also super winners.

Thai food rocks. And Bangkok Cafe rocks Thai food!

you'd do better to keep driving. Well, we would drive by this place on the way to other thai restaurants and kept saying "we should give that place a shot". So we did. I wish that we hadnt. The first thing I see on the sign board upon entering this place is "All white meat chicken $3.00 extra" A bad sign considering Ive never been served anything but white meat chicken in curries at any thai restaurant in the world. We ordered, my wife got her thai iced tea, it tasted like it was from a mix; awful. I got my greasy curry with its mangy little pieces of dark chicken. Gross. My wife vegetable dish was alright. This was the worst Thai food Ive had in Albuquerque and was slightly more expensive than other superior Thai spots. If you want real, tasty Thai, then try Thai Tip

horrible service and food. I had a horrible experience at the Bangkok Cafe. The restuarant is under new ownership and you can definately tell. The service was slow and the server was rude, the food was greasy with small portions. I had my two children (one is 2 yrs old) myself , husband and sister and the waitress charged me the 18% gratuity.. Asked to speak to the owner or a manager, my request was ignored.. I will never return..........And I will tell everyone I know about my experience.....

Thai Food Fan. Went to eat there last night. Cannot believe how great the food and service was. I was a little afraid when reading earlier comments in year 2002. But when I took my family there, we found FOODs were so great!

They are under the new ownership and very (I mean very very serious) about the service :-) I was treated like a price of Albuquerque!

No kidding - you better go there and try Rad Nah Noodle (Pad Thai Shrimp is great, but I prefer Rad Nah). Pork Chop, which my kids love, is another new recipe brought to us by the new owner who also own Sushi King and Queen of Sushi.

We will go back there again this coming weekend.

Best in ABQ. Albuquerque doesn't have too many Thai restaurants, but this is hands down, one of the best. They have many vegetarian choices and a great pad thai. Be sure to request mild, unless you can handle some heat. The lab is also quite good (for those of you that enjoy a cold pork salad.) They also have a delicious Tom Yum Pak (chicken and veggie soup) it's enough for four to share.

Great food and generous helpings, what more can I say.

They are a small facility, so be prepared to wait a bit on the weekends. Non-smoking facility.
