Romantic Dinner Ruined.
I read many reviews about this restaurant and thought it would be a nice place to bring my wife (a surprise) for our anniversary. I made reservations in advance and was excited to have a romantic dinner with her.
When we arrived, they did not have a table ready for us even though we had reservations.
The choice of beverages was very limited, and only included wine, beer, or CANNED Coke/Diet Coke. We did not want to drink alcohol and both resorted to tap water.
We ordered a sampler type appetizer, and when it was brought to our table, it appeared that the food was just thrown on the plate with no regards to appearance or presentation. The meats
While eating our appetizer, we watched three tables near us get orders that were not correct or cold. Our food arrived to us correct and warm, but was really nothing out of the ordinary when it came to taste and presentation.
Our waitress was not friendly, was not able to answer simple questions about the menu, and gave us attitude when we asked for a pepper shaker for our table.
I will not be going to this restaurant again, and it made for a disappointing anniversary dinner. My wife and I were both let down, and it ruined the surprise I had for her.
Everything's made in-house at this family run trattoria where all things Italian are celebrated in the decor, food and music..
In Short
Green, white and red flags dangle from the ceiling. A tenor's voice fills the air. Then there's the aroma of the big Italian meals to come. This family-run trattoria does everything in-house, right down to baking the bread and making the desserts. The lunch menu features salads and sandwiches bursting with ingredients like portobello mushrooms and Italian sausage. Dinner includes pastas galore as well as chicken, veal and several fish dishes.
Vivace. Food is better than average, service is about average, accommadations are less than average. Would do a lot better in another location with better restaurant coverage than next to a peircing shop. I'd say...if you like the small restaurant feel, hit it, if not, go to Scalo.
REAL Italian.
The restaurant is superb. Having lived in Italy for 3 years I can tell you that Vivace is authentic. Gordon and Gilbert have prepared an excellent menu that includes everything from the staples; L'Amatriciana, Carbonara to the exquisite; Tuna, Marsala, etc.
The staff is excellent. The atmosphere is perfect for enjoying fine food. The wine selection is not huge, but perfectly complementary the food.
