I have to agree with Evan K. on the
previous reviews of Red Wing. As a customer who has actually set foot in the store and experienced their excellent customer service, I believe that it is unfair to rate this business based on parking mishaps.
As was previously stated, the parking area is clearly marked and the consequences for using this area without being a Red Wing customer have been established on the several signs surrounding the parking spots. This business not only owns this property, but pays to maintain it so that their customers will have a convenient place to park. The fact that these people are so indignant about a situation that they could have avoided is preposterous. Face it, you parked there, ignored the warning signs, and got caught. If I get pulled over for doing 75 mph in a 65 mph zone, do I then get to blame the officer who pulled me over for my offense? Of course not.
In regards to the actual business taking place here, it is second to none. As anyone who has ever owned Red Wings footwear can attest to, the quality is the best. I purchased a pair of Iron Rangers here and have been extremely pleased with how they are breaking in. Noah was able to lend his expertise in sizing and selecting the correct pair, and advising me on future purchases of inserts after my boots were properly adjusted through wearing them. If you want to purchase high quality boots, from people who know everything about them, this is the only place in town to go. Again, disregard the naysayers who have never set foot in this place, and check it out. You will not be disappointed.
I wouldn't normally write a review, but
given the last few I figure it is necessary to come out in defense of Red Wing and its staff regarding their parking situation.
I would not hesitate to wager that those who have written negative and distasteful comments about the store's ownership have not once actually set foot in the store with the intent of making a purchase and supporting their business, but rather are sore because they parked in the store's lot and assumed, despite seven (7) signs (and an eighth indicating the cost of boot removal) telling them otherwise, that they would somehow not be booted.
There are no secret cameras, no shameless profiteering. If you are seen parking in this lot, then you subsequently decide to walk past the store and see a movie at the Guild or grab dinner at Il Vicino, you will be booted. The fact of the matter is, this lot costs money to maintain. It exists so that people may readily access the Red Wing store and patronize their business. How might you like it if I parked in your driveway, then proceeded to visit my friend across the street?
All of this being said, the staff of the store, which in reality is just two very helpful gentlemen, is great, as are their products. I highly recommend them.
Full disclosure: I've worked in the Nob Hill area for several years and am very familiar with the area. I DO NOT work at Red Wing, nor am I affiliated with them.
Red Wing Shoes has subcontracted out
management of their parking lot to JLS securities. If you park there during business hours you will find a "boot" on your car and be forced to pay a $90 fee to have it removed by the very surly manager of JLS securities.
This is nothing less than an attack on the Nob Hill community. I'm not even sure it is entirely legal. I will never set foot in Red Wing's again and would encourage you to avoid it as well. Any local business owner that would engage in this sort of shameless profiteering should be boycotted out of the neighborhood.
Hey fellow Albuquerans be aware of the lurking Christmas scrooge to put a hole in your holiday budget at the Red Wing Shoes (in Nob Hill). Beware of the hidden camera's in the "Red Wing Shoe Only Parking Lot" that will alert the boot man who will there faster than Santa's reindeer can fly... This business owner has no compassion for people, he is a liar, rude, and greedy! I will NEVER do business here again nor would I recommend anyone doing business here!! There are two other locations in town... You should check them out!! I would hope they treat current and potential customers with respect!
