Editorial Review for Restaurant Antiquity – by Gwyneth Doland
The Scene
Nestled in a historic adobe in the city's charming Old Town neighborhood, Antiquity's twisty-turny, convoluted interior is a reflection of its former life as a private home and thankfully provides plenty of private nooks. The intimate, red crackle-painted, front dining room offers just a handful of dimly lit, black cloth-covered tables. The brighter back room contains high-backed booths and larger tables in the center.
The Food
The first thing to arrive at your table--a basket of delicious, piping-hot bread--is bound to endear you to this place. The richly sauced menu is a dieter's nightmare, but couples out for a romantic evening will be willing to splurge on classics like the grilled Chateaubriand with bearnaise, sized for two and carved tableside. Finish it off by sharing a slice of the delightfully crunchy-crusted cheesecake.

Based on previous reviews, I requested table 4 and it did provide a very enjoyable setting for our anniversary dinner. We arrived earlier than our reservation but were seated immediately. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The menu has numerous tempting choices, but we decided on the Chateaubriand for Two. It was perfectly cooked to our liking and was well complemented by the Caymus Cabernet, which was fairly priced. The staff was very attentive and we were asked by 3 different people if everything was to our liking. We had the dessert sampler plate and the chocolate mousse, key lime pie and creme brulee managed to disappear although neither of us had room for them. Our only quibble is that we felt somewhat rushed.
Pros: excellent beef
Cons: felt rushed

How many great things can be said about this restaurant? It glows in romantic light, the food is expertly prepared, the service goes above and beyond great expectations. If ever there is a place in Albuquerque that is truly remarkable in all categories, this is the one. The whole experience will live in my mind forever. Waitstaff is usually a reclection of management, so whatever is going on here is coming from the top down. Beautiful, romantic, excellence. Try the Louis IV and someone very special to enjoy the elegance of an evening.... you will talk about it for a very long time.
Pros: Thumbs up all the way
Cons: none
