Elegantly stylish decorator

I have been a catering manager in the Albuquerque social market for over 15 years. I would like to pass along my personal experience with Distracted By Decor.

I worked my first wedding with Robert with Distracted by Decor in 2000 and was immediately impressed by the level of creativity in the transformation of my ballroom. Who thought you could get Old New York out of an ordinary ballroom? Rob thought it...and made it happen! Distracted By Decor exceeded my expectations on this and many many more events. Over the years I have recommended him and his company hundreds of times and have never been disappointed. The level of dedication he has to transform a bride's dreams comes through with every swoop of fabric and seems effortless. I assure you there is a ton of effort in every event than no one really knows, nor understands. You walk into one of Rob's rooms, and the room is beautiful and classy and should never be taken for granted. In addition to seeing him with lilac colored fingers for a week after personally hand-dying organza linens for a bride so they were her EXACT shade, he also has played therapist to many a bride and catering manager. He cares that not only the event looks flawless, but that the bride is happy. And for that matter - that the hotel staff is happy. He has helped my own staff set a room so it would be ready promptly for the bridal party.

So, no, not everyone can afford his services - but he should never be criticized for that. He has worked extremely hard to prove himself as an independent business with an excellent reputation. I have worked with him personally for events with miniscule budgets to budgets bordering on obscene extravagance. He treats ALL of them with respect and listens to the bride's desires and gives creative input when asked. This is not a rental company - this is an event design company - the BEST in the region by far. He comes with my highest recommendation - the recommendation of someone who has planned over 650 weddings and had planned every major fundraiser in the city. I know when I hire Distracted By Decor that I will never be disappointed. This the ONLY company who should design your event. Period. As with everything - you get what you pay for, and with Distracted By Decor, you get perfection.

Nothing's FREE!!!

Give these guys a break.

You want to rent something and NOT pay them to set it up. They charge you extra for rental stuff so they can pay people to set up your chairs or arrange your centerpieces, you know, stuff you don't want to be bothered with on your wedding day. You pay for the convenience of not having to do it yourself, and you cheap, nasty women want to complain that you have to spend $$ on your wedding. If you want it done cheap, have your cousins and friends do it. I promise you'll wish you'd had the sense to spend the $$ and let professionals do it. Don't go to a professional decorator and expect to get ANYTHING for free.

Rude and condescending

I agree with the other review. My wedding planner took me to talk to Rob at Distracted by Decor and it was the worst experience throughout the whole planning process. I was never informed that he had a minimum for decorating services and when I told him the amount I wanted to spend he basically tried to make me feel cheap. I'm not cheap just smart when it comes to spending money. He wanted to charge me an extra $2.00 for rental chairs and $4.00 for linens that the rental company would deliver and set up themselves. The only thing he would have done is call and reserve and arrange the delivery time. I could do it myself and save the money. With 150 guests I saved $400 just by calling the rental company myself!! He tried to nickle and dime me in any way he could and when I didn't want to pay his bullsh*t fees he tried to make me feel cheap and informed me that "other brides have all been required to pay and they didn't have a problem with it and if I didn't pay the extra money for him to call the rental company then he could just make that money on the next bride." Those were his exact words: "I could easily make the $300-400 on the next bride"!! I am NOT lying. He nice and sweet until I told him what I wanted to spend, then he was rude and condescending because he realized I wasn't the cash cow that he initially assumed. Do not give him your business, he doesn't deserve it.
