I was amazed at the range of animals, I loved this Zoo!. WOW! I have to say that this is one of the best Zoo's that I have ever seen. Being the middle of Februry we expected to see very little but with the beautiful climate in Albuquerque all but he Parrots were out. The flock of Flamingos that greet you walked right up to us as we entered (I love Flamingos and have never seen them anywhere). The Polar Bears, Camels, Seals, Monkeys, Elephants, Giraffe, Zebras, Lions, Tigers...Amazing! Take the train to the Aquarium and Botanical Gardens. The kids Secret Garden is magical! And the Aquarium is great too, especially considering the size. A really fun day for two 50 year old kids from Ohio!
This section of the Albuquerque biopark covers all the feathery, furry bases with some unlikely transplants to the desert..
Overview
Just off the Rio Grande River, over one thousand animals live in habitats recreated to match their true homes. Visitors are transported out of the desert and into the tropics with cascading waterfalls and into meadowlands with green expanses.
The Experience
Seal and sea lion feedings always draw a crowd. But who can resist polar bears in the desert of all places? Inukshuk Bay's underwater viewing windows let visitors watch the massive white bears swim and play. Other impressive exhibits include a wolf habitat and the misty Tropical America exhibit with its vampire bats, spider monkeys and tarantulas. The zoo is only one section of the Albuquerque Biopark. Just north of the zoo is an aquarium with a 285,000-gallon shark tank and a botanic garden with a seasonal butterfly pavilion.
Taking the little critters to the zoo.
The zoo is a excellent break for the whole family!
If you are going cuckoo and the kids are going ape, corral them up and take them to the zoo.
The fresh air and nice walk will do wonders.
Totally Outstanding. The Zoo is a totally awesome place to visit, you can take any of your out-of-towners there and guarantee they will enjoy themselves
lions, tigers&bears. I take my children here up to 3 times a month and I never get tired of this zoo, neither do they.
Class "A" Zoo !!!.
My father was military and I married into it and traveled all over the United States. Albuquerque has one of the very best zoos I have seen.
Be sure to visit all day and see everything!
Just added is an area near the elephants (where the kids play) that consists of pipes under a grate that visitors stand upon. Randomly, these pipes spew water up into the air from several spots under the grate area (and even sideways from a couple of faux rocks). Young and old take turns getting doused...a great way to cool off!
Visit the new cougar cubs at the Cat Walk, the fabulous Polar Bear exhibit and the Sea Lion viewing area every single time you visit.
Cheaper than going to the movies!
Zoo Safari. I think the zoo is an excellent place for both young and old, to discover the unknown world of animals. Too some, maybe to see a favorite animal. The Zoo, needs a tad bit of renuvating. But, I still enjoy the zoo.
